Bahamas Mission Trip

Saturday, July 18 to Sunday, August 2, 2009

Two years ago, Gillian Curling (the wife of the Nassau, Bahamas youth pastor) started a ministry where they helped Haitian immigrant children with reading and math during the summer. As many as 100 children came, and yet there were only about four staff working with them. Their program ran Monday through Thursday for three weeks during the summer.

Next summer, 2009, we will take a group of teens and young adults to Nassau, Bahamas for two weeks to join Gillian and the Worldwide Church of God in their ministry to children. The emphasis will no longer be on reading and math but instead on sharing the gospel with them in a fun day-camp setting. Many of the children will be unchurched Haitian immigrants, while others will be Bahamian children from the church.

Each day the children will experience praise & worship, devotional messages, sports activities, crafts, games, etc. Our purpose will be to share the gospel with them and show them Christian love in a fun camp setting.

The children will come to the church property Monday through Friday, 9 am to 2 pm, for two weeks. We will provide their lunch – which for some may be the only meal they have that day.

Each participant in the mission trip will be an important part of the team as each will lead an activity or be the leader of a group of children. The children who attend the day camp will be divided into age groups 4 – 7 yrs, 8 – 12 yrs, & 13 – 18 yrs. See page 5 of the application to find out what activities we may have. There are many activities listed, but it will depend on the skills of the mission team as to which we will be doing. Other suggestions for activities or party ideas are welcomed.

We will be doing ministry at the day camp Monday through Friday. On both Saturday and Sunday mornings, we will attend the local WCG church services. There will be a church picnic at the beach on Sunday, July 26.

Our mission group will stay in a small school building attached to Des & Gillian Curling’s home, or in a house on the church property. All our meals will be eaten at the church. Participants will need to take an air mattress and sheets, because they will be sleeping on the floor.

If you want to participate in this trip, complete an application and mail it to Janet Morrison by November 30.  janetdmorrison@gmail.com  Click here for an application
